Genetics of the Dombrock blood group system.

چکیده

In April I965, anti-Doa, an antibody defining a 'new' red cell antigen, was reported (Swanson, Polesky, Tippett, and Sanger, I965). The present paper records the results of tests with anti-Doa on samples received in this unit from October I964 until April I966. Anti-Doa reacts best by the antiglobulin test on papainized cells, but only a minority of otherwise good antiglobulin sera are suitable. The y G or y M reputations of antiglobulin sera have not, so far, provided a guide for finding a suitable reagent. A second example of anti-Doa (Webb, Lockyer, and Tovey, I966) behaves in the same way.

Complexities of the Dombrock blood group system revealed.

The Do(a) antigen was discovered after I began my career in immunohematology and I have been fortunate to be involved in several fascinating discoveries in the Dombrock blood group system. The Do(a) antigen and its antithetical antigen, Do(b), have a prevalence that makes them useful as genetic markers. The paucity of reliable anti-Do(a) and anti-Do(b) has prevented this potential from being re...

Identification of the dombrock blood group glycoprotein as a polymorphic member of the ADP-ribosyltransferase gene family.

Identification of the 25 known human blood group molecules is of fundamental importance for the fields of erythroid cell biology and transfusion medicine. Here we provide the first molecular description of the "Dombrock" blood group system. A candidate gene was identified by in silico analyses of approximately 5000 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from terminally differentiating human erythroid c...

The Dombrock system: linkage relations with other blood group loci.

The recognition of the blood group system called Dombrock was reported in 1965 by Swanson and her colleagues. In 1967 Tippett gave an account of the genetics of the system which included an analysis of the linkage relations of the Do locus to other blood group loci, based on families tested in the MRC Blood Group Unit up to April 1966. The present account brings the linkage analysis up to the e...

Dombrock genotyping in Brazilian blood donors reveals different regional frequencies of the HY allele

BACKGROUND Dombrock blood group system genotyping has revealed various rearrangements of the Dombrock gene and identified new variant alleles in Brazil (i.e., DO*A-SH, DO*A-WL and DO*B-WL). Because of the high heterogeneity of the Brazilian population, interregional differences are expected during the investigation of Dombrock genotypes. OBJECTIVE The present study aims to determine the frequ...
